Nature & Travel: Over the Brook and Through the Redwoods

As thoughts of summer bring flocks of visitors to the golden coast, Ariane Moshayedi Photography reminded us that California isn’t just beaches and poolsides. This photo shoot in Muir Woods Park Community Association in Mill Valley, provided beautifully preserved winding mountain roads and ancient redwoods. Check out this green forest, a historic gem that President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed a national monument, that has been standing for over 100 years.

But the forest was not just filled with peace and quiet.  A look at the ground revealed interesting plants that have adapted to low light levels beneath the shade of dense foliage, while above, the canopy of plants and redwood trees housed an array of animal communities. Such fauna include Stellar’s jays, banana slugs, and even clusters of ladybugs swarming in the thousands!

Thanks to  Ariane Moshayedi Photography for sharing a glimpse into the green Muir Woods with us. It feels like we took a quick look around Narnia in summertime!

Travel: London Calling

Red Corduroy Media Group’s photographer Christina Bentheim has seen the world and photographed it, too. In the spring of 2000, her travels brought her to London, where she rediscovered the city’s timelessness. Christina shared her old-school film shots of some of London’s most famous sights with us. Her photographs captured the haunting beauty of centuries-old buildings, as well as the liveliness of one the most beloved modern cities in the world. You might recognize Big Ben, the London Eye, and even the iconic candy apple red double decker buses in her shots, but with a fresh eye and some photo tricks Christina has made these classic scenes new again. If you can’t make the trip yourself, check out Christina’s photos for a taste of what London has in store!

A special thanks to Red Corduroy Media Group’s Christina Bentheim for sharing photos of her world travels with us via Two Bright Lights!

Real Wedding: Candlelight in Greece

How gorgeous is this wedding from Santorini Photo?? There’s something to be said for keeping a wedding simple and letting the venue speak for itself. Nicoleta and Chad tied the knot in Fira, Greece, and held their reception at the Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites. The couple opted for a white palette (check out those gorgeous white rose centerpieces!), but hundreds of candles and panoramic ocean views added color, light, and so much drama. Just stunning!

Travel: Orkney, Scotland

London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona– when traveling abroad, it can be easy to let the major cities rise to the top of your itinerary. But sometimes the most magical places are those slightly off the beaten track. Last year I spent the summer living in Cambridge, England, and for a weekend we traveled up to Edinburgh. The city itself was incredible, but my favorite part of the trip was surprisingly the drive up through southern Scotland. In all of my travels, the tall, rocky crags, sheep-speckled hills, and azure coasts of the Scottish countryside were most surprising and most memorable. That’s why I was incredibly excited to see this submission fromNicki Wohland of NiXin Photography and Design. These photos are of the Orkney region of Scotland and perfectly highlight the region’s distinct and breathtaking landscape. Thanks to Nicki for sharing these with us (and for letting me indulge in a bit of travel nostalgia!)

Travel Feature: The Southeastern Railway Museum

When Jenily Silva and her husband heard about the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia, they jumped at the chance to explore its antique treasures. The museum features everything from restored antique diesel locomotives, to the private car once used by President Warren G. Harding!   Luckily, Jenily grabbed her old film camera to share all of these treasures with us. Here is what she had to say about shooting the Museum:

“I’m a blogger and lifestyle photography is my passion. I love to express and communicate the things that awe me and inspire my journey as a blogger. There are so many different places to choose to photograph, but when I’m looking for a special way to inspire and dare myself to be more creative, I usually consider visiting antique/vintage locations. And this museum has it all–35-acre of memories, “nostalgia” and imagination, coupled with 90 items of rolling stock, including historic Pullman cars and classic steam locomotives. Speaking of the day, I was feeling a little lost with my camera, but it was really nice to feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing the session. It certainly inspired me to plan more fun projects with my film camera!”

We love that Jenily’s phenomenal travel shoot and can not wait to see what other adventures you all share with us!

The Beauty of the Bavarian Alps

When I was studying abroad in Spain, I cancelled a weekend trip to Germany because I was afraid of getting stuck there due to the volcanic ash that was causing flight cancellations all over Europe.  However, after seeing these pictures of the German landscape, I’m starting to regret my decision to avoid getting stuck in such a beautiful place.  Javier López Peña – Photography submitted these stunning scenery shots taken during a hiking trip around the Koenigsee, in the Berchtesgaden National Park in the Bavarian Alps of Germany.  The beauty of the German landscape is so breathtaking, it makes me want to plan another trip to Germany.

Today, we are excited to share our first landscape submission and cannot wait for the other talented work you share with us and the rest of the editors on Two Bright Lights.
