Travel: Family Tour of Italy

When a professional photographer goes on vacation, you know that they’re going to capture something special! Jennings from Jennings King Photography shared her gorgeous photos from a family trip to Italy, and you can immediately tell that these aren’t any ordinary vacation pictures. She told us “My sweet daddy gave this trip to my mother for her 60th birthday. Daddy also said, the “children” could come, including their spouses! My mother LOVES Italy, she would live there if she could. She has a true passion for the Italian life, cuisine, history and everything else! It was an amazing trip for many reasons, but the top reasons are we all get along, all 6 of us, we about laughed the whole time. We truly have the most fun together of any family I know! This was a trip we will never forget!”

They began their giro d’Italia (tour of Italy) with a stop in the town of Assisi, where the Basilica of St. Francis is the main church for the town. From the front doors to a chair simply sitting outside, we love all the details that Jennings King captured!

Jennings King’s next stop was at a small cheese farm in the town of Pienza. Warning: your mouth may begin to water just by looking at all these delicious food photos!

This was a full size glassed-in kitchen with about 6-8 chefs.  And what a treat this lunch was! Thanks to Andy, my Brother-in-Law, who is Proprietor & Chef of Chefs 105 in Morehead, NC, because he told us exactly what was in each dish, just by tasting! Andy didn’t know much everyday Italian, but when it came to food, he knew it all! A phenomenal chef himself, Andy was challenged by the Chef at Feudi.  The Chef brought out a dish and had Andy tell him what it was, and of course Andy got it right! “Carbonara!” The winery prepared their version: Ricotta Ravioli, favabean, fresh peas, pecorino egg foam, and crisp bacon. We also enjoyed a short wine tour. There is so much about this winery that what fascinating! Very modern, as with a Japanese architect, plus herb and rose gardens galore! They use all fresh ingredients in their kitchen along with the roses to flavor their wines!” Delicious!

Being able to simply spend time together and absorb the beauty of Italy’s natural landscape is a blessing in itself. Jennings King also took a little time to capture some of the unique details that truly make Italy what it is. She told us, “As I was walking around in Italy, I had an idea to do a door study. I loved the texture most of them had, and then there were some sleeker ones.  Usually the doors were surrounded by potted plants if they were residential.  I even found a surfboard inside a gated door in Sorrento, walking down the Amalfi coast to catch the boat to Capri. Very cool!  I found that green is the main color for doors in Italy, no reds, or pinks, or yellows, but green and black!” We’re definitely in the mood for an Italian vacation after seeing these gorgeous photos!

Real Wedding: A Fresh Take on Old-Fashioned Style

If you think old fashioned means outdated, think again! The team behind this styled shoot created an updated vintage soiree with traditional textures, fresh colors, and an abundance of pretty details.  The bride’s lace dress (and the groom’s coat tails) set the tone, and lovely cameos, elegant china, and vintage decorations completed the shoot.  Fun elements like mismatched place settings make this style budget-friendly–and they feel like they came straight from grandma’s trunk! An old sawmill is a surprising and charming backdrop for this styled affair.  Many thanks to Christy Whitehead Photography for sharing this charming shoot with us!

Colorful flowers, books, a picnic, and delightful city views come together in this irresistibly fun and adorable engagement session captured by One Eleven Images! For Keith and Renee’s engagement session, the couple hit downtown Boston for an all-day tour beginning in Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park and ending in Cambridge at sunset.  The beautiful couple infused creativity and a personal touch into the session by bringing along props for some fun photo-ops!  With a red and white picnic and some books in tow, Renee and Keith set up a charming picnic scene in the park.  We love the shots of Renee and Keith with their favorite novels, especially the close-up of Renee’s engagement ring paired perfectly with Breakfast at Tiffany’s.Boston engagement photos by One Eleven ImagesBoston engagement photos by One Eleven ImagesBoston engagement photos by One Eleven ImagesBoston engagement photos by One Eleven Images

Real Wedding: Fun Firefighter’s Wedding

This fun-filled California wedding really showcased the unique personalities of the happy couple. The groom is a Manhattan Beach firefighter, and the ceremony was held just five minutes from his fire station! Their elegant purple theme echoed the romantic, California feel of their venue. From the bride’s athletic footwear to the hilarious cake smashing, everything about the wedding reflected the bubbly couple.  One highlight of the Figlewicz Photography shoot is the beautiful pictures of the couple in front of the station. A wedding party filled with firemen resulted in some humorous wedding party photographs and a rowdy reception. We hope you enjoy this wedding as much as they did!

Engagement: A Quirky Museum Adventure

A newly engaged couple took one step closer to their marriage with a photo shoot among carefully preserved, ancient relics of an otherworldly era, displayed at Beaty Biodiversity Museum at University of British Columbia. Alexandra Hunt Photography made sure to feature the main exhibit, Canada’s largest blue whale skeleton, which was the perfect backdrop to highlight the couple’s quirky personality. This offbeat site for an engagement photo shoot was also in step with the groom-to-be’s background as a direct descendent of famous viking explorer, Leif Eriksson! Engagement and marriage were a new adventure for the couple, and where is there a better place to tap into your trailblazing instincts than to take a stroll through displays filled with innovation and inspiring discoveries? And of course, the exhibits took the latest trend of vintage style to a whole new level!

Memorial Day Weekend: Military Marriages

As we honor the men and women who have selflessly served our country this Memorial Day weekend, it is only appropriate that we feature two courageous couples who prepared for their “I Do’s” with Red, White, and Blue. Marissa Bowers art * design * photo and Maui Creative Design and Photography showcased the true emotion and love of each couple during these unforgettable engagement shoots.

Marissa Bowers art * design * photo captured Natalee and Andrew’s engagement photos shortly after they purchased their very first home together. They incorporated some poses in their new home before moving outdoors for their barn-inspired military-themed shoot. Throughout the session, they not only held each other close, but also held the American flag near and dear to their hearts. Natalee and Andrew look so happy and so in love.

Military wedding couple by Marissa Bowers art * design * photo Mallory Bair of Maui Creative Design and Photography boasted that couple Katie and Levi were “contagious with flirtation and sparkling in the cold winter sun with warmth for each other” during their photo shoot. They had only been together for about a year, but they already knew they were in love and destined to be married. Levi left shortly after this shoot for a year long deployment and Katie started planning their wedding.

Military wedding couple by Maui Creative Design and Photography Just before Levi left, Katie posted these words of encouragement in her Facebook status: ”Distance is not for the fearful, it is for the bold. It’s for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love. It’s for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough.”

Hopefully, Katie’s words give hope to other couples separated by the armed services or similar situations, especially on this Memorial Day Weekend.

In memory of all those who have made personal sacrifices for our country…

Thank you,

Real Wedding: Oregon Vineyard Wedding

This destination wedding was a great excuse for Justin and Camille to escape the sweltering weather in their hometown Austin, Texas. With temperatures reaching the hundreds at home, the happy couple decided to tie the knot at Willamette Valley Vineyards in Oregon.  Cory Ryan Photography came with them for their small and intimate ceremony.  Special moments included the photo shoot in an authentic wine cellar where the wine-loving bride and groom posed with vintage wine barrels. After an emotional ceremony overlooking the vineyards, the party moved to the reception where guests were treated to a dessert buffet and to-go truffles. The couple shared their first dance as the sun set over the rolling hills, a beautiful moment shared with their special guests.  We just love the deep red and black used in the reception details!  The beautiful natural light and warm color scheme gave this vineyard wedding a truly romantic feel.

Lifestyle & Babies: Mommy’s Little Boy

This little guy is the photographer’s own son! Christi from Christi Falls Photography went to play around in the studio one day with her son and some of his other baby friends. She told us, “I really wanted to do the sweet, nerdy little Valentine, but my neighbor insisted I couldn’t do that to him without giving him the opportunity to be a ‘tough guy’, too.” In the end, they got some sweet portraits of him as an adorable little nerd and some with his favorite toy, the tractor!

I could rave about today’s styled shoot from Lisa Dolan Photography forever!  Rustic, romantic, and laid-back, this vintage backyard wedding shoot is an absolute gem.  The best part about it?  It’s DIY!  It’s no secret that weddings these days can be costly affairs, but this beautiful shoot proves that with some resourcefulness and a touch of creativity, every bride can have her perfect day on a budget.  One fabulous idea for brides is to use items they already own and that are important to them.  In the shoot,  Lisa Dolan features charming antique dishes that had belonged to her grandmother.  What a wonderful way to bring a personal and meaningful touch to the day!backyard wedding ideas by lisa dolan photographybackyard wedding decorations by lisa dolan photographyCheerful flowers, paper lanterns, hanging ribbon and votive candles complete the dreamy backyard scene.  We especially love the colorful and gorgeous ribbon runner as a practical alternative to table clothes for outdoor weddings!

Real Wedding: Intimate Peacock Themed Wedding

The intimate peacock themed affair featured in today’s submission from Rachel Pearlman Photography was planned in just three weeks!  Yes, you read that correctly– three weeks!  Despite planning the wedding in such a short period of time, bride Jess left no detail out.  A lover of all things peacock, Jess incorporated peacock feather details throughout the wedding including the centerpieces, bridal bouquet, and boutonierre.  Many of the details, such as the peacock hand corsage and Jess’ vintage-style birdcage veil, were one-of-a-kind handmade items selected from Etsy, adding an extra special personal touch to the wedding.  We adore this stunning, detail-oriented wedding, and give kudos to the bride who pulled it off seamlessly in a matter of weeks!

Lifestyle: Tips for a smiling, camera-ready baby

Rebecca Yale Portraits had their hands full for this family photo shoot with a squirmy, restless baby. But instead of working against baby J’s instincts, the photographer chose a calm winter day to let him loose in the beautiful Madison Square Park in New York City. His great sense of adventure took him all through the park, keeping things interesting with the constantly changing backdrop, and he even cracked a few smiles while watching squirrels and dogs run around the park. It was a ingenious way to turn a distracted kid into a camera-ready, smiling baby. See what a great product can come of a happy, relaxed subject!

Winter boy clothing in Madison Square ParkWinter boy clothing in Madison Square ParkWinter boy clothing in Madison Square ParkWinter boy clothing in Madison Square ParkWinter boy clothing in Madison Square ParkNow come the real, belly-aching laughs in the photo shoot. Baby J wasn’t always ready for his Kodak moment, and he especially became shy when it came to picture time with mom and dad. But then, Rebecca Yale Portraits deployed the one, fool-proof way to coax a big grin out of baby J: his love of being swung high into the air. He completely forgot about the camera once his mom and dad lifted him! It’s good to remember that parents know all the tricks to get their baby to flash a smile.

Lifestyle: Casual Summer Baby Fashion

Take a look at this little fashionisto! Baby Patrick graciously shared some of his baby fashion tips with us in this modern, stylish shoot. Amie Fedora Photography captured the family relaxing and frolicking on a summer day in South Boston’s Castle Island. The style guru’s modern baby fashion included a straw hat, crisp white polo, cargo shorts, perfect for a classic summer picnic. And, of course, there was the added bonus of effortlessly coordinating his white polo outfit with the rest of the family, without looking too matchy-matchy.
