Today on Done Brilliantly we are thrilled to feature this exquisite engagement shoot by New Zealand photographers Bayly & Moore! Francesca and Mirco, a young Italian couple, had these talented international photographers fly to Bergamo, Italy, an ancient city with a rich history and quaint cobblestone streets for their engagement session. Bergamo is a town and commune in Lombardy, Italy, about 40 kilometers northeast of Milan. The town has two centres: Città alta (upper city), a hilltop medieval town, surrounded by 17th century cyclopic defensive walls, and the Città bassa (lower city). The two parts of the town are connected by funicular/cable car, roads, and foot-paths. The upper city, surrounded by Venetian walls built in the 17th century, forms the historic centre of Bergamo. Bayly & Moore were sure to take advantage of these ancient city walls in their gorgeous photography.

Bergamo, Italy has a prominent place in music history. The large Romanesque church of Santa Maria Maggiore had a continuous and well-documented tradition of music teaching and singing for more than eight hundred years. The church was founded in 1137 on the site of another church from the 8th century dedicated to St. Mary, which had been in turn erected over a Roman temple of the Clemence. The church opens on the Piazza Duomo on its own left side, as the main façade has no entrance, being once united to the Bishops’ Palace. The external appearance has largely maintained its Lombard-Romanesque origins. The main apse is crowned by a loggia surmounted by two frieze with geometrical and vegetables patterns, and has blind arcades with semi-columns. Francesa and Mirco walked over to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for photos in front of the ornate church door and intricate black and white tiled floor.
