Meet Our Members on Mondays: California Floral Designers

member monday floral designers

This Member Monday, we have the privilege of getting to know two wonderful floral designers from California!  Shannon Cosgrove-Rivas of Flourish and Jessica Switala of Fleurs de France both stumbled into floral design at a young age and have been Cali-”flora” dreamin’ ever since.

Shannon Cosgrove-Rivas

Shannon_Cosgrove_RivasShannon Cosgrove-Rivas, owner and head designer of Flourish, has been working in floral design for over 22 years. She started out on the business side of things, keeping the books for a florist. However, when she was done crunching numbers she would come out to the front of the shop and help with the flowers. Can you guess which job Shannon liked best? She quickly realized that her calling was in designing flowers for weddings and in 1994, Shannon opened her first retail flower shop in midtown Sacramento. 15 years later and with about 800 weddings under her belt, Shannon’s passion still lies in designing flowers for weddings.

Shannon’s floral designs have been featured in The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento Magazine, Sacramento News and Review, Flowers & Florist Review, Our Wedding Magazine, Real Weddings Magazine and The Knot Wedding Magazine, as well as several wedding blogs. Shannon is a Certified California Florist. She is also a member of the Association for Wedding Professionals, Master Florists Association and California State Floral Association.

She lives is Sacramento with her husband, her tween and teen sons, two crazy cats and one loveable mutt.

Jessica Switala

Jessica_SwitalaJessica Switala found she had a passion for floral design when on a whim she opened a flower stand at the age of 20. With no formal training, she began creating floral arrangements for her regular customers. Early on, one client contracted her for their daughter’s wedding at a large hotel in San Francisco and thus began the wedding and event side of Fleurs de France. Jessica discovered that she could channel her passion for flowers into art form, do something she loves, and turn it into a successful business.

Over the past 10 years, Fleurs de France has grown and earned its esteemed place as a prestigious floral and event design studio serving the Sonoma and Napa Valley Wine Country in Northern California. Jessica and her team work from her home, which doubles as a studio.  It is nestled on a few tranquil acres surrounded by vineyards, forest, and wildlife, the perfect place for a creative soul like Jessica who has vision, great artistic sensibility and an uncanny flair for color.  She works closely with clients designing many aspects of their event in order to deliver very personalized services. She is constantly searching for new textures, containers, color combinations, elements, fabrics, lace and embellishments to enhance her creations. Jessica personally hand picks every bloom, always looking for the extraordinary and the perfect elements to add.

Fleurs de France specializes in Destination Weddings in the Northern California Wine Country and is completely comfortable working long distance with couples worldwide.

Two Bright Lights from the Vendor Perspective

“I love receiving images from photographers using Two Bright Lights.  The format is so easy to use.  The new feature of any professional, not just photographers, being able to submit weddings to blogs and publications is fantastic.” -Shannon Cosgrove-Rivas
